Thomas "Tom" Harris, 76

Our loving and loyal husband, dad, papa and friend, who leaves us with his legacy of family and love, great memories and so many valuable lessons, Thomas Alfred Harris, 76, of Verdi, Nevada, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 24, 2015 at his home.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years Georgene; his sons Randy (Cindy) Harris and Mike (Lisa) Harris; his daughter Cindy (Scott) Ballman; grandchildren Mitch (Brandy), Kristin (Brian), Brad (Shelbie), Cory (Chantee), Zach (Katie), Casey (Haley) and Kyle; his sister Pat Bonk; several nieces and nephews; and an abundance of close friends, including his four-legged companion Bandit.

Tom was born July 3, 1938 in Lovelock, Nevada to Walter "Bud" and Winifred "Winnie" Harris. He grew up in Verdi and graduated from Reno High School. On January 1, 1956, he married his childhood sweetheart, Georgene Powning. Tom was employed for 30 years as an electric lineman, retiring as Supervisor of Electric Operations, at Sierra Pacific Power Company.

An avid outdoorsman, Tom enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and any activity that involved spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bud and Winnie Harris in 1992.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Grace Church, 1220 Robb Drive, Reno, Nevada. A private burial will take place at Crystal Peak Cemetery, Verdi, Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to the Verdi Preservation Society, Inc.

Georgene and Family,
Another year has passed since Tom's passing, but he has not been forgotten. We think of him often and miss his winning smile and caring ways. On the anniversary of Tom's passing, seeing his bright and ever present smile in the gallery photo, has truly lifted our spirits and reminded us of how much Tom added to the lives of so many others. Georgene and Family, Once in a while in this life, one bumps in to a presence that compels one's attention. Surely, Tom is that presence. Georgene and Family,

Just reading the other entries in this guest book really says it all about Tom. His ever-present smile had a huge impact on all those who knew him and speaks volumes as to his kind and caring character.
