Gordon Atterton Obituary

Gordon Dean Atterton was born on Dec. 29, 1950, to Bobbie and Raymond Atterton in Whitwell, Tenn. He died at home on June 28, 2022, in North Port, Fla. Gordon grew up in Tennessee, graduating from Rhea Central High School in Dayton in 1969. His 1970 enlistment in the U.S. Air Force brought him to Minot, N.D. where he met and married Penny Bailey on Aug. 1, 1971. Penny and Gordon had two children, Chad and Kellie. Penny and Gordon lived in Minot and were members of Christ Lutheran Church before retiring to Florida in 2013.

Gordon worked for Dean Foods following his honorable military discharge in 1974 until he retired in 2013. Gordon was a southern charmer with a twinkle in his eyes and a mischievous spirit. He had a kind heart and generous nature.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Penny; son, Chad (Lea) Atterton; daughter, Kellie Stowe; grandchildren, Brooks and Bennett Stowe, and Hayle and Camryn Guy; sisters, Sandy (Joey) Johnson and Phyllis Wilson; one nephew; and numerous nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Tedder; stepfather, Randal Tedder; and father, Raymond Atterton.
