June Valera Poinsett

Born: May 6, 1948 | Died: May 26, 2025

June Valera Poinsett, age 77 of Dayton, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, at CHI Memorial. She was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, on May 6, 1948, the daughter of the late James Walker Crosbie, Sr., and Valeria June (Kleckner) Crosbie.

June grew up in New Jersey, graduated in 1970 from Bryan College in Dayton with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education, and returned to New Jersey to teach for one year. She moved back to Dayton in 1971 and was employed as a teacher by the Rhea County Department of Education. During her early teaching career in Rhea County, she was a traveling music teacher in several small schools. She spent many years as an elementary teacher at Evensville Elementary School, finished her career as a fifth-grade teacher and a music teacher at Rhea Central Elementary in Dayton, and retired in 2015. She enjoyed collecting Longaberger baskets, watching figure skating, traveling, and attending concerts and plays. She was a former member of the Evensville Home Demonstration Club and a current member of Circle of Friends Club. She attended Grace Bible Church where she was an AWANA leader for many years.

June is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronald F. Poinsett of Dayton; her daughter, Mariah Poinsett of Dayton; her sisters, Jane (Bruce) Bloxom of Apopka, Florida, and Mildred (Rocky) Rockhill of Neptune, New Jersey; her brother, James (Kathie) Crosbie, Jr. of Manchester, New Jersey; her aunt, Lorraine Gurgacz of New Castle, Pennsylvania; her uncle, Burteen (Kathryn) Kleckner of Sebastian, Florida; and her many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service for June will be at Grace Bible Church on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Woychuk officiating. The family will receive friends at the church at 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
