Darlene Kissick Obituary

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI- Darlene J Kissick, 85, of Snug Harbor passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025 at Yale New Haven Health, Lawrence+Memorial Hospital, New London CT. Darlene was the daughter of the late Joseph Adams and Claire (Greene) Adams.

Darlene was born in Usquepaug, one of 10 children. They all had great stories of their childhood that would make you laugh and smile. Darlene is predeceased by her siblings, John Adams, Shirley Sherman, Frederick Adams, Dorothy Essex, Nancy Stephenson, Richard Adams and Linda Cacciola. She is survived by her two cherished sisters, Marjorie Craig and Joanne Stasiunas both of Charlestown, RI. She enjoyed time spent with both of her sisters.

Darlene attended the Richmond School. She retired in 1998 from American Power Conversion. Darlene's most cherished role was being a mother. Her family was her greatest joy. She enjoyed cooking especially her famous meatballs which she was still getting requests for her recipe. Her children's friends were always welcomed into her home for a meal or even temporary housing when needed. When Darlene's first grandchild was born, she took on that role with an even greater passion. She always had a grandchild with her.

Darlene loved Snug Harbor and being outside caring for her shasta daiseys and many flowers. She loved when neighbors would drive by and roll down the window for a chat with her. She knew everything that was happening in her little village. Darlene was also an animal lover. She lost her cherished puggle Lulabelle in 2021 who was always by her side. Darlene wanted another furry companion after losing Lula because she was heartbroken. She began searching on rescue sites and chose her beloved RemDawg who spent every day with her for the past 3 years. She was the best Fur Grandmother. Remy is heartbroken

and will miss her so much.

Darlene leaves behind her children, Douglas S. Kissick (Mary Ann) of Saunderstown, Carol L. Bonner (James) of West Warwick, Susan J. Wetherell (David) whom she resided with in Snug Harbor. Darlene was predeceased by her son Dennis J. Kissick. Darlene is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole Baird of West Kingston, Ryan J Brennan of Cumberland, Sara J Disalvo of Wakefield, Brittney, Jacob & Jayden Bonner all of West Warwick and Spencer D. Wetherell of Snug Harbor whom she resided with and raised him along with her daughter and son-in-law for the past 19 years. Spencer and his Gram had an amazing bond that will never be forgotten. Darlene is also survived by her six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she loved. She is also survived by her favorite nephew as she always called him, Thomas G Essex of Narragansett. Tom spent a lot of time with his Aunt Dolly right to the end still making her laugh with his dry sense of humor. She loved every minute of their time together.

Burial is private with a family dinner gathering held in her memory.

Darlene's lifelong passion was children. Her request was to donate in her memory to ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A memorial fund has also been set up online in her memory.
