Richard Cannon Obituary

Richard W. Cannon

Richard W. Cannon of Snug Harbor passed away peace-fully on June 24, 2024, at the age of 89.

Born in Providence on June 10, 1935, Richard was the son of John Patrick Cannon and Grace McKay Cannon of Longwood Avenue, Providence, RI. A lifelong Rhode Island resident, he was predeceased by his wife, Nancy B. Cannon of Cumberland, and his son, Richard M. Cannon. Richard is survived by his sons, David Cannon, Michael Cannon and his wife, Ann; daughter-in-law Ellen Cannon; six granddaughters; his brothers, John

M. Cannon of Naples, FL, and James E. Cannon and his wife, Janice, of Medfield, MA; and his sister, Mary Zagarella of Warren, NJ.

Richard, known as Dick, was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School (Class of 1953) and Providence College (Class of 1957). He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Specialist 6. He dedicated 39 years to the U.S. Social Security Administration, retiring as the District Manager for Rhode Island.

Dick had a lifelong passion for fishing and boating, which began in the Snug Harbor area during his childhood in the 1940's. In 1979, he made Snug Harbor, RI his permanent home, where he spent the rest of his life. His love for the area was shared with family and friends, creating lasting memories for all who knew him.

Dick's spirit, dedication, and love for his family will be deeply missed.
