DENNIS BAXTER Obituary

DENNIS BAXTER 04/09/1962 - 07/16/2025 Redmond, Utah - On July 16, 2025, in the early hours, our beloved dad, son, brother, and friend, Dennis Low Baxter, age 63 of Redmond, unexpectedly passed away at the SUFCO coal mine doing what he loved. Dennis was born on April 9, 1962, in Gunnison, Utah, to Marvin Jay and Darlene Hill Baxter. He was the youngest of five siblings. Dennis graduated from Gunnison Valley High School, where he played the clarinet and attended Boys State. He worked at Midway Market and at the Knife Plant with his brother and father. After graduating in 1980, he attended Snow College in Richfield, where he received his electrical certification. Shortly after, he began his career at the coal mine. He started working there in August, and from that moment on, it became a significant part of his life. He spent nearly 40 years there, working as a Fireboss until his death. He married Carolyn Larsen on May 3, 1996, in the Manti LDS Temple, but they separated in November 2024. During his time in the coal mine, Dennis had the privilege of working with many great people who not only respected him but also became more than just coworkers; they became friends. Many looked forward to chatting with him whenever they passed by during their shifts, even if it was just for a brief moment. Throughout his time at the mine, he was known by nicknames such as Baxter, Bux, Bucky, and Buckster, among others. Most importantly, he was a kind and hardworking individual who would do anything for anyone, regardless of who they were or the circumstances. When Dennis wasn't at work, he devoted his time to supporting his family and children. He was the best provider a family could ask for. Whether attending recreational sports, school events, or anything in between, he was always there for them. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed activities like gardening, riding four-wheelers, hunting, camping, and fishing. The mountains held a special place in his heart, and he seized every opportunity to escape there. Each year, he and the kids eagerly anticipated the moment they could start decorating the yard with Christmas lights, even when it became challenging for him. He found great joy in driving around to admire other houses adorned with holiday lights. He also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and listening to music. Some of his favorite artists were George Strait, Alan Jackson, Neil Diamond, and Sawyer Brown. Dennis is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a primary teacher, in the bishopric as the ward clerk, in the young men's program, and for over 20 years in numerous scout callings. Dennis is survived by his children: Kymbrie (Logan Lambertsen) of Gunnison and Gavin Baxter of Redmond. He is also survived by his wife, Carolyn Baxter; his mother, Darlene Baxter of Centerfield; and his siblings, Dennah and Paul Baxter, both of Salt Lake City, as well as Marlene (Steve Polanshek) of Centerfield. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored him. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Jay Baxter; his brother, Marvin Lee Baxter; and his brother-in-law, Richie Philips. The family wishes to express gratitude to the EMS, first responders, officers, and coworkers who supported Dennis during this unexpected time. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00A.M. in the Redmond LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00P.M. or Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services.
