James Byham, 74, of Erie and previously of Kane, passed away Monday (May 23) at UPMC-Hamont. He was born on Aug. 18, 1947 in Kane, the son of the late Maurice and Elsie (Lundin) Byham. On Jan. 29, 1972, in Kane, he married Darya "Dusty" Baylard, who survives.
Jim and Dusty recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Jim was a member of the Kane High School class of 1965 and he graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He retired as the Chief Financial Officer at Elk Regional Health Center. Prior to that he had been the Chief Financial Officer at Kane Community Hospital and also the Community Nurses. Jim had served on the board for the Community Nurses, the Lutheran Home at Kane and the Dickinson Center. He was a member of the Kane Lions Club and was an avid bowler and fisherman in his earlier years and he was an avid Kane Wolves and Cleveland Browns fan. Jim had also proudly served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Shannon (Chris) DeVallance of Ridgway, Amy (Bob) Rezmerski of St. Marys, and Kristi (Jason Cook) Byham of Montrose; one son, Christopher (Amy) Byham of Kane; five grandsons Evan Nourse, Alec DeVallance, Carson DeVallance, Aeden Cook and Brayden Byham; one granddaughter, Gianna DeVallance, a sister Patricia Iwansky of Virginia Beach, VA, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judith Lindberg.

Jim was a kind, loving, and patient man. He was very giving, always ready to help his family, friends and coworkers, and was the rock that held those around him steady. Jim was happiest in the presence of his loved ones, and at his beloved refuge, Topsail Island, North Carolina.

Dusty and family, I am so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. I worked for him for quite some time at KCH and he was one of the most kind and selfless managers I have ever known. I appreciated his personality and how I was treated in and out side of work. I am so sorry for your loss, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers!
