Philip M. Mitchell, age 90, of 112 Longview Dr., Ridgway, died unexpectedly, Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Penn Highlands Elk. He was born January 1, 1931, in Clearfield, son of the late Sam and Frances (Scarone) Mitchell. He married Peggy M. Matha on September 1, 1956, she survives.

He resided in Ridgway since 1956 and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and a past member of the Ridgway Country Club. Phil started Clearfield Legion Baseball and when he moved to Ridgway he started a Legion Team in 1961. He designed and built the Sandy Beach Baseball Park with a lot of volunteers. He coached and taught baseball to the young boys in High School and Legion Baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. He enjoyed the Prudential family. He was a graduate of Clearfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War receiving the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He had been employed as a Sales Manager for Prudential Insurance, retiring after many years of service.

He is survived by his wife Peggy M. Mitchell of Ridgway, 2 sons Craig M. Mitchell of Ridgway and Douglas J. (Theresa) Mitchell of Ridgway, 2 grandsons Joshua P. Mitchell of Ridgway and John D. Mitchell of Ridgway, 2 brothers Peter (Patty) Mitchell of Altoona, PA and Lincoln Jack Mitchell of State College, PA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister Theresa Cherry.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Philip M. Mitchell will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the donor's choice.
