Ancil Newport

Ancil Newport, 90, of Spring City, (Newport community) passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, in Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
Ancil was a member of Paradise Baptist Church in Rockwood. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S Kearney during the southern invasion campaign of France. He was a 50-year member of Rhea Springs Masonic Lodge 310 F&AM. Upon returning home from the military, he developed Rean Meadows Subdivision in Ohio. Shortly afterward, he moved to Tennessee with his family. He along with his brother built and developed the Newport resort community. Mr. Newport was a lifelong developer and contractor. He was a certified water treatment plant operator. He was known as a "man of his word." Mr. Newport was a hardworking man. Ancil enjoyed flying, as he was a licensed pilot. He also enjoyed bird hunting. Most of all, he loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He was a family man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by parents, Hobart and Bertie Hembree Newport; son, Kerry Todd Newport; brothers, Elzo R. Newport and Odell Newport; and sisters, Wilma Jefferies, Louise Chambers and Ruth Sexton;
He is survived by wife of 62 years, Glenna Newport, Spring City; sons, Hobart Newport, Midtown, Monte Newport (Becky), Spring City, and Randy Newport (Karen), Spring City; daughter, Angela Willis, Spring City; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Rachel Mautin, Ohio; host of nieces, nephews and other extended family; and many friends throughout the community.
Arrangements are as follows: Monday, Aug. 24, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary, Rockwood â€" Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary. Interment and concluding services will follow at Glen Alice Cemetery, Rockwood, with full military honors by the U.S. Navy Honors and Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guards.
