Carolyn was a devoted Christian woman and a collector of friends who always opened her heart and her home with a warm welcome. I first met Carolyn in 1979, when she welcomed me into her home to celebrate the 4th of July with family and friends. Every 4th of July since, I think about sitting in her backyard eating the best fried catfish, homemade hush puppies, potato salad, watermelon, and ice cream EVER! Several years after I met Carolyn, her daughter, Leigh, was born. When she was in the second grade, Leigh wanted to become my pen pal so she could learn to write in cursive and so I could send her post cards. From second grade until today, Leigh and I are still pen pals. Carolyn allowed me the privilege of sharing her daughter's childhood, teen years, high school and college graduations, career development, engagement, marriage, and now - loving mother of Xavier Jackson Giles. Carolyn's devotion to God continually spilled out blessings to those around her. Rest in peace, my sweet friend.
