Alvin Earl Pickering

Alvin Earl (Al) Pickering, 75, of Bedford, died Friday, December 21, 2007 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Dianne Kay Murdock Pickering. Born, January 15, 1932 in Harrisburg, Illinois, Al was the son of Knox and Thelma Sharpe Pickering. A United States Air Force veteran, he was retired as a Plant Manager with Reynolds Aluminum and was a member of the Elks Lodge, and Bedford Baptist Church where he contributed a very good tenor voice to the church choir. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Brad L. Pickering of Blue Ridge, Va.; his daughter, Kiki Pickering of Madison, Va.; his sister, Norma L. Pickering of Illinois; and three brothers, Gene Pickering and wife, Jeanette of Indiana, Robert Pickering and wife, Mary of Missouri and Leonard Pickering of Tennessee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 24, 2007, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford with the Rev Dr. David L. Henderson Officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
