Ann Jones Obituary

Ann Bullion Jones

December 24, 1929 - August 25, 2025

WOODLAWN, VA – Ann Bullion Jones, 95, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at her home in Woodlawn, VA. She was born on December 24, 1929, in Foster Falls, VA, to the late Early and Frances Tate Bullion.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Elbert Bullion; and sisters, Ima Walls, Neda Walls, and Pauline Lephew. She is survived by her sister, Marie Fowler.

Ann was a devoted mother to her five children, Joseph Jones, David Jones, Phyllis Jones Ayers, James Jones, and Jonathan Jones. She cherished her role as grandmother to Bryan, Sarah, Candace, Jillian, Nathan, and Emily, and as great-grandmother to Logan, Lilly. Sallie, Wyatt, William, and Ryan. She had a very special relationship with her son-in-law, Don Ayers, and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Jones. In addition, her former daughter-in-law, Bettie Baber, held a special place in her heart. She also loved and was loved by countless extended family members and friends. She was always making beef stew, cornbread, and spaghetti for whoever came to visit.

More than anything, Ann was known throughout the area for her lifelong devotion to caring for children. Known to a host of children as "Nanny Ann," she operated a home daycare, welcoming hundreds of families into a warm and loving environment where every child felt safe, valued, and special. Her impact on the community is immeasurable, and the children she nurtured, along with the families she supported, are as much a part of her legacy as her own loved ones.

In addition to her devotion to countless children whose lives she touched, Ann was a tireless volunteer at the Southwest Virginia Training Center, where her oldest son, Joseph, resided. She accepted awards for her work there with her normal humility. She also volunteered at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, particularly at apple butter-making time. Ann was first on site and worked tirelessly to make sure that apple butter was the best it could be.

Her family and community are richer for the years they had with Ann, and she will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank all of Ann's friends, extended family, caregivers, and healthcare workers for their love and support in Ann's 16-year-long struggle with Alzheimer's.

A celebration of Ann's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to The Hillsville Preschool Program.

Ann was a dear friend. I did her hair for the years she was able to get out and drive. She was so kind to me. I miss her. Will pray for the family! ❤
