November 21, 1935 - June 6, 2023
Mrs. Arbutus Cook Compton of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully joining her beloved husband, Calvin, in Heaven on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the age of 87.
She was born on November 21, 1935, to the late Clovis and Nancy Victoria Arms Cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Coolidge Compton; sisters, Margaret Lester, Doris C. Musick, Elizabeth C. Clarke, and Ruth C. Knippenburg; and brothers, James W. Cook and George E. Cook.
Those left to cherish Arbutus's memory are her loving son, Barry Calvin Compton and his wife, Donna; granddaughters "the girls," Alanna, Casey, and Baylee Compton; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A special "Thank You" to her caregivers, Mitsi Studebaker, Shirley Blevins, Jessica Prater, and Beth Krupin.
A funeral service honoring Arbutus's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Oakey's North Chapel with Pastor Ron Young Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorials Gardens. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the funeral home. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Barry, his wife Donna and daughters Alanna, Casey and Baylee. I have very fond memories of Arbutus from years ago. She was always so nice to me.
