Obituary published on Legacy.com by Collier Funeral Home - Benton on Feb. 9, 2026.
Henry William (Bill) Compton, 92, of Calvert City, Kentucky passed away on February 7, 2026.

He was born on April 22, 1933 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey to Kenneth Gordon Compton and Veronica Betzold Compton. Bill served in the Army as a Staff Sargent from 1953-1955 in Colorado Springs. His GI bill enabled him to graduate with a Chemical Engineering Degree from Clemson University in 1960, where he met and married his wife, Caryl. He worked for BF Goodrich in Calvert City which led to assignments in Houston, TX; Abadan, Iran; Maracaibo, Venezuela; Boston, MA; and Convent, LA. Upon retiring, Bill was a consultant for Apex Engineering at Westlake in Calvert City. In honor of his 50-year commitment to Kosair's Shriners, he was awarded a life membership.

Playing golf and working to better Calvert City Country Club were two of his great passions. Bill could be found golfing at the crack of dawn or working on the swimming pool chlorination system in the afternoon. He also served on the Calvert City Water Board. Bill was an avid gardener and world traveler. Known as PopPop, Dad, or Henry to many of his kids' friends, he was a beloved, warm hearted, and adventurous patriarch.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 59 years Caryl Clepper Compton, sister Mary Louise Stirrat, and nephew David Compton.

He is survived by son Kenneth Compton, Gilbertsville; daughter Sheren (Trey) LeBlanc, Spanish Fort AL; grandson Joseph (Liz) LeBlanc, Daphne AL; granddaughter Michelle LeBlanc, Edinburgh, Scotland; brother David D. Compton Mechanicsville, VA; brother-in-law Len Stirrat, Pensacola FL, and loving nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Tina Hoskie for helping to keep Bill independent in his home for the last several years and Calvert City Nursing and Rehab's caring staff during his final days. The family will remember Bill in a private ceremony at a later date.
