Ray Solomon Obituary

Ray Myers Solomon, 94, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House in Bowling Green, KY on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Ray was born on November 8, 1931, in Calvert City, KY. He was a graduate of Calvert City High School in 1950. He was the starting point guard on the basketball team from 8th to 12th grade and known for his leadership and jumping abilities. He was a graduate of Murray State University, where he also played two years of basketball. He received a Bachelor's Degree, a Master's Degree, and a Rank I (30+) certificate for school administration.

A lifelong educator in the Marshall County School system, he started his career in '59 as a teacher and basketball coach at South Marshall High School. He later transitioned to principal at Brewers Elementary '62, then Calvert City Elementary '63-'74 and North Marshall Jr. High after the school consolidation '74-'82. He retired as the Director of Pupil Personnel in '82-'90.

He was an active member over the years at Calvert City Methodist Church and then Benton First United Methodist Church, serving both churches on various councils and boards.

He was a veteran of the US Army and served 18 months in the Army Medical Services at the United States Hospital in Neubrücke, Germany.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling, sailing, golf, reading, and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence A. Solomon and Mary Emma Norman Solomon, his wife of almost 60 years, Nancy Walker Solomon, his brother James Solomon, his sister-in-law Rachel Solomon, his brother-in-law Jimmy Walker, and his nephew Jason Solomon.

He is survived by his son Stephen Ray Solomon (Shaw) of Louisville, daughter Beth Solomon Borders (Bill) of Bowling Green; grandchildren Will Borders (Katie) of Lexington, Walker Borders of Lexington, Elizabeth Solomon Landherr (Ethan) of Louisville, Raegan Borders of Lexington and George Solomon of Louisville; his great grandson John Thomas Landherr; sister-in-laws May Parker (Ronnie) of Paducah, Kay Adams (Thomas) of Boynton Beach, FL, and Wilma Walker of Clinton; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 12th, at Oakland Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he married Nancy in 1960. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 in the morning, with the funeral starting at 11:00. Burial will immediately follow in the Oakland Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of Southern KY, Bowling Green, HospiceSOKY.org
