Lorene Genevieve Walker Auld, a believer in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, a devoted educator and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in Lafayette at the age of 106. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in
Lafayette, LA.
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of service.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend Susan Ferguson of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette, will officiate.
Born on December 23, 1919, in the community of Lark, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Luther A. and Nora Lucinda Akin Walker. Lorene married V. L. Auld on Aug 27, 1947, in
Tishomingo, OK. Lorene and V. L. were lifelong members of the Methodist Church. Their final membership was with the Asbury United Methodist in
Lafayette, LA.
She grew up in the close-knit community of Lark, OK, on the Red River. She began her education in a two-room schoolhouse, where her lifelong passion for learning first started. Lorene graduated from Kingston High School, and went on to Murray State College, East Central University, and the University of New Mexico.
Lorene started her teaching career in the same two-room schoolhouse in Lark, OK, and retired from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as an Assistant Professor of Business. Her husband V.L. started teaching at Southwestern Louisiana Institute, currently University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in 1956. She also worked with V.L. who began an accounting practice, later, joined by her son, Van.
Lorene was a member of The Greatest Generation and was very proud of her work for WWII at Douglas Aircraft, manufacturer of the C-47 (DC-3) in
Midwest City, OK. She donated several items belonging to her husband and herself to the WWII Museum in
New Orleans, LA.
Lorene was an active member of numerous lineage societies, the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century. She also belonged to the American Association of University Women.
Her hobbies included reading, genealogy, and helping with Vacation Bible School at Asbury. Lorene was also very proud to help support the youth activities there. She leaves behind a legacy of the values of education, heritage, hard work, and love of family. Her family will affectionally remember her pot roast, chiffon pumpkin pie, chili, and homemade ice cream.
Lorene is survived by her daughter, Deanna Ames (Tom) and her sons, Van Auld (Jacqueline), and Greg Auld (Teresa); her grandson, Tom Ames, Jr. (Debora); her granddaughters, Carolyn Auld, Dr. Elizabeth Auld Scardina (Derek), Haley Auld, and Hannah Churchwell (Cameron); her great-grandsons, Thomas E. Ames, Benjamin Scardina, Waylon Auld; her great-granddaughters, Samantha Ames, Vivian Goudelocke, Charlotte Goudelocke and Lauren Scardina and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, V. L. Auld; her son, Joe Carl Auld; her parents, Luther A. and Nora Akin Walker; her brother, Bill Walker; her sisters, Vera Kincaid and Jackie McCarty Lemmon; her brothers-in-law, Lance Kincaid, Homer McCarty, and Claude Lemmon; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Brogan Walker.
