September 15, 1938 - January 28, 2025

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Barbara S. Farnam, passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home and into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Barbara was born on September 15, 1938, and grew up in Gary, WV.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ollie J. Farnam and her parents, James R. and Thelma M. Heldreth.

She is survived by her three children, Valerie Steineke (Wesley), Tim Farnam (Veverly), and Chrissy Creese (Rod). Also surviving are her siblings, Patsy Watson, Richard "Buddy" Heldreth, and Deborah Carter (Larry); grandchildren, Melissa Tran (Mike), Matt Steineke, Hannah Steineke (Bee), Hilary Pokoj (Ed) and Emily Creese; and great-grandchildren, Lucas Kim Tran and Oliver Edward "Ollie" Pokoj.

Barbara was a loving, devoted wife to her husband, and the world's best stay at home mom to her three children. She was a very special grandmother known as Mawmaw, to her five grandchildren and both great-grandsons.

As her children got older, she signed up to be a substitute teacher with Bedford County Schools and taught at Stewartsville Elementary for many years.

Barbara was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke where she sang in the choir and served the Homebound Ministry for over 20 years.

Barbara loved and appreciated nature and being outside. From her garden harvest, which she was happy to share its bounty with her family and friends, to the flowers, trees and shrubs as they shed their coats of winter and transformed like new each Spring. She especially loved seeing and hearing the many different birds that made Virginia their home and recognized many of them by their song.
