Benjamin Hauser Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin C. Hauser (United States Army, Ret.), 72, of Smith Mountain Lake, Va., passed away on Monday, January 16, 2012. Born in 1939, Ben attended William Fleming High School in Roanoke, Va., and later graduated with a business degree from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. Ben married his wife of 47 years, and went on to establish a distinguished career as a U.S. Army officer, followed by his employment at TASC, during which he received an achievement award. Ben built and retired to his dream home at Smith Mountain Lake, where life offered many additional roles. To friends and family he became the resident golfer, gardener, fisherman, and grill chef. To career buddies he continued to be an inspiring army officer, and a loyal employee who led by example. Most importantly, to those closest to him, he was the best of father, grandfather, husband and friend. Ben is survived by his wife, Josiane N. Hauser; and by four children; and eight grandchildren. Ben and the family gratefully thank all those who were with us during the trying times. We especially thank the medical staff of the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Oncology Unit, and the nurses at Carilion Hospice for their support and expertise. We mourn Ben's passing, and keep him in loving memory. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Flora Funeral Chapel with Pastor Travis Gore officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.

Ben was a wonderful friend whom I had the pleasure of working with. He was admired by all. He will be greatly missed.

Ben was one of the persons who helped convince me to come to work for TASC. He spent many an hour after I started working there, teaching me about the type of work we did. I know I speak for myself and others in saying, he will be missed. Great men don't come along very often, but this one was a great one!!
