Carlton Crowner Obituary

Carlton William "Bill" Crowner

December 21, 1930 - June 8, 2024

Carlton William "Bill" Crowner of Salem, VA, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the age of 93.

He was born to Carlton Eugene Crowner and Lila Eggleston Crowner on December 21, 1930, in Gouverneur, NY. He played football and baseball in school and graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1949.

Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the Theodore Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier, during the Korean War for four years. After being discharged from the U.S. Navy, he attended Columbia College in Tacoma Park, MD.

He worked as a Quality Control Electrical Engineer at General Electric for 34 years. After retiring from General Electric in 1989, he and his wife, Marian, enjoyed their retirement years by traveling the United States, Canada, and Mexico in an RV. After nine years of traveling, they settled in Salem, VA, to live out their golden years.

He was an avid fan of football and baseball, frequently attending the Salem Red Sox baseball games and Salem High School football games. He was a man with values and integrity. He leaves behind a legacy of patience, kindness, and love of family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Rima Crowner; and his son, Ronald William Crowner.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, David Crowner (Natasha), Nancy Cheatham (Chuck), and Sharon Alls (Carson); his grandchildren, Christy Jacqmein (Bill), Amber Gregory (Steven), Jason Alls (Tabby), Peter, and Sofiya; along with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service with Military Honors will be held with immediate family at a later date.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehab (especially Meghan, Amber and Shania) and special thanks to Gentiva Hospice of Roanoke, VA, for their loving and empathetic care. Condolences may be shared at www.Oakeys.com.
