Carroll Bowyer Obituary

Carroll Edward Bowyer, 92, of Troutville, VA, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 19, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Paul Bowyer; brothers, Garland, Gene and Donnie Bowyer; and sisters, Judy Caton and Pat Ballard. Also preceding him is his beloved wife of 63 years, Vella Haynes Bowyer.
Carroll grew up in Alderson, WV. He was man who loved the Lord and his family. He was a faithful member of Bonsack Baptist Church for over 35 years where he made many friends who he considered to be family. Carroll served in the United States Army as a Staff Sargent in 1953 - 1956. After an Honorable Discharge, he moved to Detroit where he worked for Ford Motor Company for a short time. He graduated from the Nashville Diesel College in Nashville, TN in 1958 and went on to work in the trucking industry for many years.
Carroll founded Thermo King of Roanoke in 1977 and ran it for 20 years, until he retired. After retiring, he spent his time delivering bibles for the Gideons, restoring antique cars, traveling and occasionally relaxing in his recliner.
He is survived by his brothers, Norville Bowyer (Jenny) and Jack Bowyer (Gail); his daughter, Deborah Stokes (Jim); son, Kenneth Bowyer (Bonnie); grandchildren, Michael Stokes (Jennifer), Jenna Oliver (Craig), Tamara Smith (Jason), Kim Avis (Heather) and Ricka Gilliland (Josh); and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, Ellis Senior Care, Allpro Home Care and the Salem Veterans Home Care for their compassion and care for Carroll.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Oakey's East Chapel with Dr. Chris Cadenhead officiating. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bonsack Baptist Church. Condolences may be shared with his family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.
