Charles "Charlie Buck" Edward Thompson, 71, of Rustburg, Va., passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 25, 1953, Charles dedicated his life to a variety of passions. As a skilled brick mason and carpenter, he was known for his specialized work in building beautiful log homes. Charles also spent his life as a farmer and had a deep affection for all animals, especially the ones he cared for on his farm. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Loretta St. Clair Thompson; his father, Edward Lewis Thompson; his sister, Mary Francis Thompson; and his son, Paul Wertz. Charles is survived by his loving siblings, Carolyn Witt, David Thompson, Darrell Thompson, and Sharon Smiley. He also leaves behind his special niece and nephew, Samantha and Allen Gregory, and their children, Elijah, Daniel, Hannah, Serenity, and Gunner, who were a great source of joy in his life. Along with numerous other nieces and nephews, he was especially proud of one in particular, Caleb Witt, and his accomplishments thus far. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his dedicated caregiver, Jessica Esparza; his bathing nurse, Linda; and his two compassionate Centra Hospice nurses, Tara and Rebecca, for their exceptional care and support during his final days.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Wabun Revival Center, 5010 Beason Ln., Salem, VA, beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ralph Parker officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ASPCA in Campbell County.
