Charles WAID Obituary

Charles T. (Charlie) Waid Jr. 90, of Roanoke, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 21, 2013. He was born in Roanoke to the late Charles T. and Ora Vance Waid. His beloved wife of 66 years, Margaret Pickle Waid, passed away last November; his daughter Rebecca A. Waid; and his brothers, Powell and Marcellus Waid, have also predeceased him.
Mr. Waid retired from Wingate and Associates Inc. after 40 years of service as a real estate appraiser.
He served in the United States Navy in both World War II and the Korean War.
Charlie was a devout Christian man, he taught Sunday School for 40 years at Tabernacle Baptist Church where he and Margaret were members for 50 years. He loved collecting coins and stamps, and doing crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his son, Michael R. Waid and his wife, Lou T. Waid, of Salem; grandchildren, Leslie E. Taylor and her husband, David, Todd Waid; great-grandson, Joshua Taylor; honorary daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Joe McClure; sisters-in-law, Stella Waid, Patti Waid, Bernice Pickle, Joann Pickle; brothers-in-law, Bill Pickle and his wife, Janet, James Pickle; and numerous other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Pastor Chris Mitchell and Pastor Rick Elmore will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel. www.oakeys.com.

Mike and family,
My deepest sympathy after Charlie's passing. He was a very special man. I worked with Charlie going back to when I started part-time in 1979. As long as I knew him, he was always the same kind and patient man. He will be greatly missed.

The Waid Family,
Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your love one. May God Bless you and comfort you at this time and in the days forward. We feel blessed to have known Charlie through Tabernacle Baptist Church. Charlie was a "Special Person" and respected by many people. He loved "Our Lord" and he lived his life accordingly. He was a True Witness. Although we will miss Charlie,our admiration and memories of him will always exist.
