Christopher Flynn Obituary
Christopher Michael Flynn
October 25, 2021
Christopher Michael Flynn, son, husband, father, and friend died unexpectedly on Monday, October 25, 2021, at the age of 59, at his home in Fancy Gap, Virginia.
Chris is survived by his father, Don (My) Flynn; wife, Michelle Flynn; children, Christina (Brandon) Tilford, Spencer Flynn, Courtney Flynn, Mallory Flynn; sisters, Donna (Charles) Paulman, Laurie (Brian) Purvis; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie Flynn.
Chris was born September 30, 1962 in Alexandria, Va. to Don and Marie Flynn. He graduated from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp working with Computer Operations Systems. Chris is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Electronics. He spent over a decade advancing in the technology industry until he began his own technology and consulting company, Netbytes, in 1996.
Chris can best be described as a Renaissance man who was a connoisseur of the finest things in life. From an early age, Chris enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together - from the family t.v. to Heathkits from Radio Shack. He was active in his church, had a thirst for the English language and learning, and was an exceptional cook. His love of theater led this thespian to be featured on television as "the handsome stranger" in a period piece shot in Old Town Alexandria at Gadsby's Tavern. Chris' appreciation of music and his musical talent is what first ignited his passion for world travel - United States, England, Australia, China, Prague, and Brussels. Chris never met a stranger, using his quick wit and charisma to charm all.
On June 25, 2011, he married Michelle Whalen, of Hannibal, N.Y., a school administrator. Chris was a devoted father who loved to share stories of his travels and experiences with his children; sometimes sharing the same story over, and over, and over again! They will likely never forget the details surrounding his encounter with Sylvester Stallone in a Las Vegas elevator. Whether it was a Boy Scout function, weekend sports event, cheerleading, a choral concert, a play, a musical, a Broadway production, or a Pink Floyd concert, Chris treasured his time with his kids. He always believed they embodied the best of him. Those who know and love Chris know that he had a special affinity for Dobermans, science fiction, Blanton's whiskey, red wine, history, cooking, and most of all, his family.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1000.S. Royal Street, Alexandria, Va.
