Cornelia PENN Obituary

During the early morning hours on Thursday, November 8, 2012, Cornelia Coles (Nene) Penn quietly answered God's call and slipped into her eternal resting place. Cornelia was born on February 3, 1915, in Montgomery County, and was raised by her maternal grandmother, the late Mrs. Sarah Coles. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and remained a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Cornelia also served as a member of the Roanoke Chapter Eastern Stars.
In spite of receiving very little formal education, Cornelia excelled as an entrepreneur. Her home day care provided services that spanned generations. Although she could boast of a successful career in child care, her most rewarding accomplishment was her commitment to her children and grandchildren. She never met a stranger and was affectionately known as "Nene" to all.
Cornelia was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Mr. Frank Penn Sr., her two eldest sons, Dolphfred (Mickey) and Jimmie Lee and her only daughter, Mrs. Jean Penn Perry.
Those left to cherish precious memories include two sons, Frank Penn Jr. (Carolyn) and Sahvaliel Malik, of Maryland. She was blessed to have a relationship with her numerous grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held noon Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Gregory Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2012, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curis.com.
