David Gray Hardin

David Gray Hardin passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Roanoke, VA. He was born on November 21, 1960, in Raleigh, NC.
David was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert Gray Hardin and Virginia Fletcher Brown Hardin, and by his brother-in-law, Samuel Fishburn Woody II.
He was educated at Radford University and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. David was an ordained Baptist minister. A thoughtful and deeply caring man, he was especially devoted to his family. In particular, David lovingly oversaw his mother's care during her final years, a role he embraced with patience, faith, and unwavering dedication.
David had a keen mind and a lifelong love of learning. He spent two tours as a missionary in Tanzania and Albania, an experience that reflected his deep faith and commitment to serving others. He also enjoyed exploring his family history, volunteering at Windsor Hills Baptist Church, and staying closely connected with friends and family near and far. His quiet generosity and steadfast loyalty will be remembered by all who knew him.
David is survived by his sisters, Debra Lee Hardin Woody of Roanoke and Cynthia Ann Hardin Hince (Tony) of North Beach, MD; and his nieces, Mary Louise Woody (Aaron Perelstein) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Madison Elise Hince and her boyfriend, Skye Jordan, of Chesapeake Beach, MD; his great-nephew, Ezra Samson Perelstein-Woody; special family friend, Robert Draper Woody of Roanoke; and a host of cherished uncles, aunts, and cousins throughout the United States and Canada.
The family is deeply grateful to his medical teams at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and Friendship Health & Rehab Center, as well as his devoted home care staff, Patti Huntington, Claire Kralick, and Alexia Tanks, for their kindness and loving care.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Oakey's South Chapel with visitation preceding from 1 to 2 p.m.
