Doris Guerrant Obituary

Doris grew up in Englewood, New Jersey and from the beginning dreamed big. Her sense of adventure, fueled by non-stop curiosity and boundless energy, took her around the world and introduced her to people who became fast friends. As a planner and an organizer, she initiated trips for the Roanoke Ski Club, parties for her golf groups, movie nights in her apartment building, libraries, dinner groups, award ceremonies, Bridge games, and whatever else she dreamed up to make life fun. Her most favorite places were Smith Mountain Lake, Nags Head, NC, Grands Camp in the Adirondacks, and later in life, Graeagle, CA. Her many friends were scattered across the US and she would often criss-cross the country, visiting people along the way. Doris was a life-long learner who was constantly engaged in ways that expanded her horizons. After being married twice (Gordon Zeeman & Sam Guerrant) and having four children (Priscilla, Diana, Douglas, Margaret Anne) she earned a bachelor's degree from Roanoke College, a masters degree from Radford University, and a PhD from Florida Institute of Technology. She continued to earn various certifications and credentials until she retired in 2008 and ventured from Roanoke to the west coast to be near Doug and his family. Doris was living in Reno, NV at the time of her passing. Doris is also survived by her children's spouses (Larry Sawyer, Paul Jenkins, Martha Guerrant, Patrick Powers), 8 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. The four children will gather at a later time to spread her ashes at Smith Mountain Lake. Memorial gifts may be made to Graeagle Community Church where she found a home in Christ during her final years.(Graeagle Community Church P.O. Box 1208 Graeagle, CA 96103).

She was my counselor and then became my friend after I suffered two strokes in 1989. I was going through a divorce too. Doris helped me pull my life back together. I loved her and I'm so sad to hear that she has passed. Thank you dear friend for all you did for me. I helped her too. 9

Doris was an example of one that truly loved Jesus and would help anyone that she was able. My last in person visit was when she came to visit me in Sparks, Nevada after my surgery and I was recovering at my sister in law place. Was a very special memory when she came to visit me in Belize and meet the student she was sponsoring. May you as her family find peace and comfort knowing she was faithful to her Lord and Savior to the end.

My heart is broken. Doris was a special person and a wonderful friend. We have been friends for over 30 years. Every trip she made across the country she always stopped to see me and have lunch and great conversations. I will miss her. My sincere condolences to her children and family.

Margaret Ann and family,
My sincerest condolences to all at the lost of your lovely vivacious Mom. She was truly an amazing woman. As a therapist, your Mom was so well respected amongst all who care for anyone with mental health issues. She was an amazing therapist and helped soooo many folks deal with life´s unexpected trials and turns. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
