Edith Corso Obituary

Edith Mae Corso, 93, of Roanoke, died Friday December 30, 2011. She is preceded in death by the love of her life Darwin Corso. Survivors include her daughters, Darlene Cave, Mary Ann Bova and husband, Eddy; grandchildren, Leah and Geoff Blake, Maria and Clay Newton, Blacksburg, Ron and Michele Cave, Sarah Jane Bova, Jake Bova, Luke Bova; and eight great-grandchildren, all of Roanoke; elder sister, Viola Pulliam, Harrisonburg and her beloved "El Gato Ping". She was a child of the depression, born in 1918 in Green County, VA to the late Joseph and Luella Shifflett. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. We will miss her quick wit, keen fashion sense, the sassy roll of her eyes, and her loving embrace. She lived with grace and sheer will and determination, and was a fighter in body and soul. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Oakey's South Chapel. Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA or Angels of Assisi. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.

Mary Ann, so sorry to hear about your mother. I always enjoyed her as we were growing up. A prayer will be said for you and your family.

Grandma was the greatest, she made the best waffles ever, and watching Bingo at her house over and over is a wonderful childhood memory. She truly will be missed greatly.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone at this time. Find comfort knowing that Aunt Edith is now at rest. I too will miss her SO MUCH for I loved her dearly. I cherish the memories I have and will never forget you Aunt "Edie".
