Edna Vernell Isom Leonard, 86, formerly of Galax, Va., passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, August 20, 2009. She was born on June 23, 1923, to the late Luther Isom and Cora Eanes Isom. Other loved ones who went before her were her husband of 62 years, James Oklen Leonard; her daughter, Maggie Lou Leonard Hill; brothers, Wayne and Archie Isom; and sister, Pearl Bond. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and family, Darlene Carter and Randy DeHart, of Moneta, Va.; and her grandsons, Bryan Hill, of Fredricksburg, Keith Hill and wife, Andrea, and greatgrandson, Cameron, all of Christiansburg, Va. She is also survived by her brother, June Isom, of Galax; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to family, she will be greatly missed by many friends from Galax and from her more recent home at Smith Mountain Lake; and by her fellow church members at Mt. Pisgah Church of Christ in Galax and Lake Drive Church of Christ in Vinton. She treasured her life as wife, mother and homemaker. During her recent battle with cancer her faith was a constant source of comfort. She prayed endlessly and expressed her deep love for her family and her Lord. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, August 21, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, in the chapel with Marvin Williams and Elmer Williams officiating, Burial will be held in the Leonard Memorial Church Cemetery.
