Frank Longrie Obituary

Frank Alexander Longrie

September 28, 2025

Frank Alexander Longrie 74, of Pearisburg, VA, in the twinkling of an eye, peacefully went to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at his home on Horsley Drive in Pearisburg, VA. He often said whether he lived or died he knew where he was going when God called him home. He survived a heart attack 14 years ago and a triple vessel bypass about a year ago. His heart had just had enough trauma and God took him home. We thank God we had the extra special years with him.

Frank was the son of Orville and Oveda Longrie and stepmother, Loretta Longrie of Wisconsin who had preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Longrie; a sister, Linda Longrie Lannen; his first wife, Merle Ann Longrie; his daughter, Donna Longrie Bullis; two sons, Frank Alexander Longrie II, and Travis Clayton Davis; as well as several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a special nephew, Randy Newby.

He is survived by his beloved wife and family, Joyce Mosburg Longrie; a brother and wife, Dean and Kate Longrie of Battleground, WA; two daughters and their husbands, Sheila Longrie Williams and Robert of Portage, MI, and Angela Davis and husband Dean (who he considered his son); along with their six children who he was devoted to and dearly loved, Skyler Martin, Cameron Davis Beidleman (Patrick), Brennen Davis, Zoe Davis (her fiancé B), Emmalin Davis, and Adalee Davis of Pearisburg; a son-in-law, Jay Bullis; a granddaughter, Stephanie Bullis of Hickory, NC; and two more he called his grandchildren, Patrick and Ryan Beidleman, and several special nieces and nephews. He had a spoiled fur baby Rambo he treated like his little boy. He was looking forward to his first great-grandchild Saylor who will be here in November, and he also has several special nieces and nephews, including Brenda and Gary Bowles.

To know Frank was to love him. He loved his God, his church, Riverview Baptist, his wife Joyce of 31 years, his family, and his country. He proudly served in the United States Army for 26 years and retired as an E9 with the highest Army Enlisted rank of Sergeant-Major. During his Army career he received the Meritorious Service Medal upon retirement, Two Army Commendation Medals, Four Army Achievement Medals, Eight Army Good Conduct Medals, Two National Defense Service medals, the Army Service Ribbon, Two Overseas Service Ribbons, a Senior Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, Egyptian Parachutist Badge, the Imperial Iranian Parachutist Badge, and the Royal Thai Army Airborne Wings, He served two overseas tours –one in Thailand and one in Germany. He spent several years at Fort. Bliss, TX, Fort Bragg, NC, taught Freshman Cadets in the Army ROTC Department at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, and was the first Sergeant-Major and Executive Officer of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. He also worked in Fleet Services at Virginia Tech as well as several other jobs after retiring from Virginia Tech. He liked to stay busy and would attempt to do anything that needed to be done – his wife called him a "Frank of all trades."

He was presently serving on the Jefferson Christian Academy School Board, a member of the Giles County Bible Bus Board, Vice-President of the Christian Motorcyclists Association in Princeton, WV, and a past member of the Gideons. He did have a CDL license and drove the Bible Bus occasionally and the church bus and van at JCA.

Frank loved people and they loved him. Even though he was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, after he married Joyce and stayed in Virginia, she says she thinks more people knew him than her even though she was born and raised here all her life. He never met a stranger and loved to talk, as all who knew him will agree. He will be greatly missed and remembered always by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Riverview Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be conducted at Riverview Baptist Church on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 4 p.m. with Pastors Mike Mitchener, Terry Easter, and Tom Maurer officiating. Funeral services will conclude in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA where he will be laid to rest and full military honors presented by the United States Army Honor Guard. In addition, Dean Davis, Skyler Martin, Brennen Davis, Patrick Beidleman, Ryan Beidleman, and B. Davis will serve as honorary pall bearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jefferson Christian Academy or the Giles County Bible Bus program.
