Fred Jones Obituary

Fred Eugene Jones

March 25, 1934 - December 20, 2024

Fred Eugene Jones of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024. Born on March 25, 1934, Fred was 90 years old. He was a native of Beckley, WV.

Fred passed peacefully just as he lived his life. He was surrounded by his wife, A. Louise Jones, whom he enjoyed 68 years of marriage; their son, Darrel Jones; and their daughter, Pam (Jeff) Gibson.

Fred loved to read. He would spend hours quietly entrenched in a good book. He loved people from all walks of life and left those he met with a smile from his infectious, if not often self-deprecating humor. Just to get a laugh he was quick to ask if his hair looked alright, something he had lost most of very early in life.

Fred is also survived by his brother, John (Shirley) Jones, from Covington, VA; his sister, Mary Pagan, from Spring Hill, TN; his grandchildren, Megan (Ben) Caldwell and Kirk (Kathryn) Gibson; and great-grandchildren, Emerson, Asher, Levi, and Nola. He had a large family and was blessed with friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces too numerous to list them all.

Fred would have wanted to acknowledge in deep appreciation the friends and staff he enjoyed at Hermitage in Roanoke. After a lifetime of saying he wanted to live his final years in his home, he found a new family with the people he so richly enjoyed over the past year at Hermitage. On behalf of the family, our heartfelt thanks for the love and care bestowed upon him.

Although Fred has been reunited with his friends and family that have crossed over before him, he will live on in the hearts and minds of those he leaves behind forever. He will be deeply missed.

Psalms 73:26. "My flesh and my heart may fail me, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Services to be determined at a later date. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.Oakeys.com.

I LOVED this guy! He went to my grandparent´s church. When I was young, I told him he looked like Mr. Potato Head. At 27, I still asked about Mr. Potato Head. Fred, you are one funny guy! You´ll be missed and you´ll always be that to me!
