George Richard Lux

George Lux Obituary

George Richard Lux, of Blacksburg, loving husband and wonderful father, died at age 71 on March 6, 2009. George was well known for his open heart and jovial attitude. He was active in giving back to the community through numerous affiliations with the Scouting movement. He will be remembered as an honest soul who spent his life in the service to others through a variety of church and civic affiliations. George completed his graduate education at Valparaiso University, taught there for 10 years, and after one year teaching at Grove City College, moved to the Engineering Department of Virginia Tech. He retired in 1994 after 17 years of additional service. George was a hobbyist and active collector, but his greatest collection remains the positive memories that live in the hearts of his family. From trips, to weekend adventures, to the special little kindnesses he afforded all fortunate enough to call him friend or family, he certainly left a positive impact. He is survived by his wife Myra Lux and three children (Brian, Jason and Rachel). He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Grace and brother Robert. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be donated in his name to the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP) located at 110 Roanoke Street Christiansburg, Va., 24073 (540) 381-1561. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Wednesday March 11, 2009 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on 1845 Cambria Street in Christiansburg with a brief fellowship to follow. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

Mrs. Lux, Brian, Jason,Rachel,

My heart and prayers are with each of you. I have never met Mr. Lux but I have met each of his children. If a father can raise children to be as wonderful as each of you are then he had to be a fantastic person. Keep your chins up you are in my prayers. Bonnie

Dear Mrs. Lux and Family,

On behalf of Valparaiso University's faculty, staff, and students, I send you heartfelt wishes of peace, love, and comfort.

Although I personally met George only one time - in the Gellersen Engineering and Mathematics Center hallway - it was clear he was a very special man. We will always remember him and his personal contributions to Valpo's Engineering program.

May God give you peace now and always,

Verna McMichael

I met George when I worked at Betsey Roberts office several years back. He was a wonder person and always brightened our day with his contagious smile. May the memories of George keep your heart warm and may Gods strength keep you moving so that one day you will join him in heaven.
