George Obenchain Obituary

George Elsworth Obenchain, 89, of Bedford, Va., died at his home on Tuesday, October 23, 2007. The first of George and Vernie Preas Obenchain's three children and a graduate of Montvale High School. He married the late Lillian Roberts with whom he had two sons, Ronald Lane and John Wesley Obenchain. After retiring from the Southland Life Insurance Company, George enjoyed pursuing his many interests, including gardening, fishing, gaming, socializing and watching Nascar races and professional baseball. He was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge, the Bedford Christian Church and the Ponderosa Men's Club. He was predeceased by a brother, Bill; a sister, Ethel; and his second wife, Gladys Craighead. He is survived by his two sons and their children, Willoughby, Hunter, Eliza, Morgan and Susannah. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 26, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, Va.

George will be missed by all of us at the Moose Lodge. He did so much to bring happiness to all of us. On the occasions I had the privilege to have him over for a cook out, he and Daisy always brightened our afternoon.
