Georgia Stephens Obituary

Georgia Lillian Sadler Stephens, 88, of the Newbern community, Pulaski, Va., passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 4, 2009. She was born August 19, 1920, at Thessalia, Va., the daughter of the late Bittle K. Sr. and Lula Harris Sadler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Vance Stephens; brothers, Bascum Sadler and Walter Lewis Sadler, and a daughter-in-law, Lois Bratton Stephens. She grew up in the White Gate community and graduated from White Gate High School Class of 1938 and was a member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church. She was well known throughout the area from her many years of working at the Gap, Roz Lyn and Ranch House Restaurants where she loved all of her customers. She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Dook) Stephens, of Pulaski; two daughters, Connie Kersey and husband, Frank, of Bluefield, Va., and Linda Flinchum and husband, J.R., of Dublin; three brothers, Bittle K. Sadler Jr., Charles Henry Sadler and wife, Freda, and John Randolph Sadler and wife, Susie; three sisters, Josephine Johnston, Rhoda Stephens, Alice Hamblin and husband, R.B.; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Sadler; three granddaughters, Tina Turpin and husband, Ronnie, Melissa Van Horn, and Paula Flinchum; two grandsons, Terry Stephens, Brad Roope and wife, Hillary; three greatgrandchildren, Kayla, Kim, Ricky and wife, Krista; two greatgreat-grandchildren, Cameron and Rylee; and special friend, Betty Jo Riggs. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate with the Rev. Barbara Wilson and the Rev. Jack Jenkins officiating. Burial will be held in the Stinson Cemetery, White Gate. The visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 2224 South Jefferson St., Roanoke, Va. 24014 or the Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 369 Walkers Creek Valley Road, Pearisburg, Va. 24134.
