Gerald Kuhn Obituary

Gerald Kuhn

Gerald "Gary" Kuhn, 83, of Roanoke passed to his eternal life on August 4, 2025. He was born and raised in the Buffalo, N.Y., suburb of Lancaster, the son of Karl J. Kuhn and Dorothy Weis Kuhn.

Gary earned degrees from the Catholic University of America, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University. He spent his early years as a teacher in Milwaukee before moving to Japan where he taught English as a second language at schools and corporations for 17 years. He returned to Buffalo to care for his mother for 12 years before retiring to Roanoke where, at various times, he was a member of St. Gerard's, Our Lady of Nazareth and St. Andrew's parishes.

Gary loved walking, doing puzzles, reading and listening to old-time radio comedy and NPR. His passions were current events, politics, religion and climate change. A lifelong cat lover, he volunteered at Angels of Assisi in-house and as an at-home caregiver for seriously ill cats.

Gary is survived by brother, John "Jack" Kuhn (Mary), of Moneta; nephew, Michael Kuhn (Beverly), of Indianapolis; and niece, Andie Gibson (Chris) of Moneta.

A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at 12 p.m. on September 12, 2025 at St. Andrew Basilica, Roanoke.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Angels of Assisi, 725 Franklin Rd SW, Roanoke, VA 24011.
