Gladys D. Compton

Gladys D. Compton, 93, of Fincastle, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2009. Born June 4, 1916 in Rocky Gap, Va., she was preceded in death by her husband, Beauford G. Compton. She was a 50 year member of the Home Demonstration Clubs of Virginia, a charter member of the Botetourt County Women's Club and was a member and held office in the Botetourt County Women's Republican Club. Mrs. Compton was a member of Fincastle Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and Elder and was active in the Women of the Church. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra G. Compton, of Statesville, N.C.; son, Robert Compton and wife, Lisa, of Troutville; three grandchildren, John B. (Beau) Jennette, Jennifer Pellican and Katherine Jennette; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank. her special friends and staff at The Glebe. The funeral service will be at the graveside at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009, in Trinity Cemetery, Botetourt County. Her pastor, The Rev. Rodney D. Wilson, will officiate.
