Grace Austin Obituary

Grace Vivian Obenshain Austin, 85, of Roanoke Va., formerly of Botetourt County, and grew up in the Mill Creek area, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Betty Deblasi, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Irene Murphy, of Roanoke, Va.; granddaughters, Amy Dickerson, of Los Angeles, Calif., Sara Ray and husband, Chris, of Nashville, Tenn.; stepgranddaughters and husbands, Gina and Steven Stokes, of Pittsburg, Pa., and E.J. and Jessica Walsh, of Detroit, Mich.; six stepgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many greatnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Austin of 58 years, and the last surviving child of Edith Stevens Obenshain and Elmer Peyton Obenshain; brothers and sisters, Bill Obenshain, Ruby Secrist, Buck Obenshain, Lee Obenshain, Jim Obenshain, Mary Lucy Deel, E.P. Obenshain, and Dewey Obenshain; nephew, Peyton Obenshain; and niece, Edith Obenshain. She was a longtime member of Airlee Court Baptist Church and employed by Avec Electronics. She moved to Hendersonville, Tenn., in 2004, and made her home at Park Place Retirement Center and Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Grace's outlook on life and her warm smile that greeted everyone will be remembered always. Funeral services will be held noon on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Mike Grooms officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and 11 a.m. till noon on Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel, 362-1237.
