I remember Mrs.Clay as my 5th grade teacher at Monterey Elementary. A woman I learned more about life from than 5th grade science, and a woman who I never saw in the same outfit twice. She is definitely unforgettable. For her husband, Sam, she talked about you often; I send my prayers your way and assure you she's waiting on the other side.

Ms. Hazel and I joined Weight Watchers about the same time in January 2012 and we became support buddies with another lady. They called us the 3 musketeers because we were always together and there to support each other. I am truly going to miss her. She was a very special and wonderful lady. RIP Ms. Hazel. I will be praying for the Clay family and keeping them in my thoughts.

Like others who have posted here, I know Hazel through the Roanoke Higher Education Center and the work she tirelessly performed through TAP. I conversed with her in passing and I saw her in action...teaching, training, advising and encouraging. Believe me when I say, she has touched many lives in a positive way. That, Miss Hazel is a wonderful legacy! I extend my condolences to the family of Mrs. Clay,to the TAP organization and to her many friends. May the Lord sustain you during these times of loss and then may his healing and peace allow you to always smile when thinking of Miss Hazel.

You don't get the opportunity to use the word "Class" much when describing people these days, but Mrs. Clay definitely invoked that distinction. Not much of a talker, but she was so much a "DOER!" Nothing like a woman who takes pride in her appearance, & I NEVER saw her "slippin'!" (smile) Condolences to the family. Be well in knowing that even though she wasn't a native Roanoker, she left an undeniable mark on the Roanoke Valley.

"Gone But Not Forgotten"
The years we've shared have been full of joy.
The memories we've made will go on and on.
I haven't stopped crying since you went away,
and I've asked God time and time why couldn't you stay.
You lit up my life, my hopes, and my dreams.
You've opened my eyes to see what it all means.
So now that you're gone how can I forget;
Because you were the greatest out of all I have met.
