To the entire Katz family: I was in high school with Ira, and had seen him several times through the years. What a straightforward and honest guy he was. I will always remember him for that, and know that he and Helene were wonderful examples for their sons. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so saddened to hear of Ira's passing. I can remember him from my earliest childhood, and well into later years, when I would stop in to see him at Southern Pawn, whenever I was in town. He will be missed.

While I never had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Katz, I have known Jonathan to be such an amazing and inspirational individual, which speaks volumes about the man his father was. I am so sorry to hear of his passing but know that his life was purposeful in having raised such incredible children.
Jonathan - Please know that your family is in my prayers and if I can ever do anything, I'm just a phone call away.

It was a pleasure to care for Ira when he was ill. He was always so happy just to be alive and I am glad I had the pleasure of meeting him and touching his life. He was a wonderful man, and I know he loved his boys dearly, that is all he ever talked about to me! Love to all of you.

I cannot imagine Roanoke without Ira. We knew each other for many years, and together attended Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School, Patrick Henry High School, and the University of Richmond. He was dear to the Winders family, and particularly kind and attentive to my late father. Our heartfelt condolences to the Katz family and to Ira's many friends.
