Iris Figgers Obituary

Iris Madeline (Alford) Figgers, 82, of Mt. Sidney, Va., beloved wife for 61 years of Robert L. Figgers, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg. She was born December 2, 1927 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Lirty Forest and Daisy Blair (Camden) Alford. She attended Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert F. and Sylvia Figgers of Katy, Texas and William L. and Cindy Figgers of Fredericksburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Iris Dawn and John Cox of Gainesville, and Nancy B.F. and Steve Payne of Fairfax; two brothers, John R. Alford of Lynchburg and James L. Alford of Natural Bridge; a sister, Mildred Gilmore of Glasgow; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry W. Alford and a sister, Gracie A. Burks. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2010 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010. Memorials may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Inc., P. O. Box 937, Verona, Va., 24482 or to a charity of one's choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.henryfuneralhome.net.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Iris was such a kind and gentle person that made you feel like you had known her all of your life. She was such a comfort to us during the loss of loved ones and especially when I lost my grandmother. May God wrap his arms around you all and comfort you during this time of sorrow.

She was a blessing during the loss of our family members and especially during the loss of my grandmother. May God hold you in his arms and help you during this time of loss.
