Ishmael Junior Overstreet

Ishmael Junior Overstreet, 71, of Thaxton, Va., passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, August 30, 1938, in Bedford County, a son of the late Ishmael Worth Overstreet and Nettie Virginia Orange Overstreet. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd Overstreet, Wayne Overstreet and Russell Overstreet; and a sister, Elizabeth Carter. He was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving is his wife, Carolyn Key Overstreet; a son, Wayne Overstreet and wife, Patt, of Thaxton; five daughters, Cindy Dowdy and husband, Bobby, of Roanoke, Sharon Dooley and husband, Oliver, Carrie Overstreet and husband, Randy, all of Thaxton, Melissa (Missy) Bland and husband, Larry, of Roanoke, and Glenda Hensley and her daughter, Alexis, of Bedford; a sister, Faye Overstreet and husband, Pat, of Bedford; a brother, Dale Overstreet and wife, Ellen, of Bedford; as well as 10 grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Earl Ragland and the Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Peaks Presbyterian Church & Community Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, after noon and the family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford, Va., 540-586-3304.
