James Dunsmore Obituary

James Dexter Dunsmore

September 5, 1954 - January 11, 2021

Mr. James Dexter Dunsmore of Blue Ridge, Virginia, died peacefully at home on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the age of 66.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luther John Dunsmore, and mother, Jean Helen Oberle Dunsmore, of Cathedral City, California.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Kathleen Dunsmore (Kathye); son, Jonathan Dunsmore of Roanoke; daughter, Jessica (Dunsmore) Weiner and her husband, Jesse, and their daughter, Anna Weiner, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister, Barbara Dunsmore of Oceanside, California; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was born on September 5, 1954 in Memphis, Tennessee, to his parents, John and Jean Dunsmore. Jim graduated from West Carteret High School in 1972 and Lenoir Community College with a degree in associate of science in 1974. He went on to work in various aspects of the petroleum industry for the next 45 years.

He and his wife, Kathye, were married in 1984. They went on to have two children, Jessica and Jonathan. They remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, driven man who encouraged them to pursue their goals in life.

Jim was an individual who loved the Hokies, playing cards, golfing, fishing, and singing in the choir at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He always tried to put a smile on everyone's face, either by telling a joke or playing a prank. In the last years of his life his most enjoyable moments were spending time and making memories with his granddaughter, Anna.

The family will be available for visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Oakey's East Chapel. The private family service will be available to view online. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.oakeys.com.
