James E. "Jimmy" Jordan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, a day after his 80th birthday, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his wife of 55 years, Ann; son, James; and daughter-in-law, Laura.
The only son of James Clifton and Georgia Sink Jordan, Jimmy was also survived by many cousins (who were like his siblings), former co-workers, friends, and church family.
He served his country with two stints in the National Guard. Jimmy retired from Norfolk Southern working for over 30 years in the East End Shops and Shaffer's Crossing. A lifelong member of Red Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, trustee, and property manager, he exhibited the fruits of a Christian - visiting the sick and shut-ins, taking meals to the needy, and welcoming everyone regardless of background.
When he wasn't serving the church, Jimmy enjoyed old movies (and had an encyclopedic knowledge of actors' names), music of all types, and old cars. He never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone, always finding a connection. He loved his son, James, more than life and gave him an education in kindness. Devoted to his wife, Ann, he made sure that she never had a care or a worry. Jimmy will be greatly missed, as he now enjoys his reward in Heaven, but he leaves behind many good memories and a lasting influence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke, VA 24018, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Frankie officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Red Hill Baptist Church, 6251 Franklin Road, Roanoke, VA 24014. Condolences may be shared with his family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.
