Karen and Family,

Vinton has lost a truly fine person not just a baseball coach, but a man who really loved to be around people. James was a hard worker and would do anything to help out. I remember James saying “it’s all for the kids” as we worked on a field. I know you will miss James, so will I… and so will Vinton.

Karen if we can help let us know, we are thinking about you.

Dear Karen, Heather, Josh, Jeremy, their spouses and children, Holley, Sue, Holly, Jr., and Pam,

Our hearts are broken just as yours are. James was more than a neighbor to us, he was our brother and best friend. He is going to be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.

I feel in my heart that James would not want us to grieve and be sad but to celebrate his life. His contagious smile and wit will always be remembered. He was truly a special person to us.

Just remember that God only picks the best flowers to place in his garden.

Please know if there is anything any of you need that we are there for you.

With our love and deepest sympathy,

Diane Shepherd

To the Mutter family, I am sorry for your loss. James is truly a person I'll never forget, even though I only knew him briefly. His smile and personality were contagious, and I was always impressed by how much he genuinely cared about all of the kids on the baseball field and not just his own son. He was always a pleasure to be around and I know he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

To the Mutter FAMILY:
Just learned this morning of James passing. I was very saddened to hear about this. I went by his house last year to invite the family to Andy's wedding. I talked with Karen and James for a while and we talked about kids and grandkids. You could just listen to him talk all day; because when he spoke about his children and grandchildren you could feel the Love. I wish there was some magical words to take away your pain and sorrow. I hope as time passes your hearts will be filled with all the good memories of James.
Thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I love you all like my own family and please, please let me know if you need anything. Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to Holley Sr., Sue, Karen,Holley, Jr., Pam and the whole Mutter family. My memories of James are rooted in my "growing up" years in Garden City. Mark and I spent so much of our youth in the company of Holley, Jr., Ricky, and Bo (James). We played baseball and football in their backyard and were constantly having the ball snatched by the "older gentleman" across the street or the "older lady" below them if it ended up in their yard so we not only had to be fast to first base, we had to be fast to chase the foul balls!. We camped out in the summer and rode our bikes all over Garden City and Mount Pleasant and to the swimming hole out on Back Creek. We spent a lot of our teenage nights on "the corner" right across from the Mutter's home. We all felt like we were part of something special there in "The City" and we were. It was a wonderful place to grow up and I have never had 3 better friends than Holley, Ricky, and James. My deepest sympathy to the whole family on this great loss.

James was my son's baseball coach many years ago, but I have never forgotten his love for the game and his patience with the children who played for him.

A couple of months ago James helped me "save" a neighborhood dog from the heavy evening traffic on Mountain View Road. This caring act made him a hero in my book!

My sincere condolences go out to the family and I hope your memories of this wonderful man somehow help you get through this time of sorrow.

James Mutter was one of the finest people we have had the honor to know. He coached our son Matthew, in Baseball, and was the best coach he ever had in any sport. He simply was great coach for all of our kids.
James was always open and friendly. This community was touched in a very positve way by this good man.
We will keep the Mutter Family in out thoughts and prayers.
God Bless and Keep The Mutter Family.

Dearest Mutter Family,
I was so saddened to learn of James' passing. The Mutter Family has always had a special place in my heart. In the first grade Pam and I walked to her house for lunch almost every day. I spent lots of weekends there, ( being tormented (ha, ha) by Ricky and James and loved every minute. Holly,Jr was too much of a teenager to bother with us little kids, Ha! Great Memories. Mr. and Mrs. Mutter are two of the finest people I have ever known and my heart breaks for you all but I know how strong your faith is and know that God will comfort you. You're in my thoughts and prayers daily!
Love,
Lisa

My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. May your fond memories of him help you through the days ahead.

Mr. Mutter was the most polite person I have ever met. I will always remember him for "yes ma’am" and his shining smile.

I had the honor of knowing Mr. Mutter when he coached my son, Kip McLaughlin, 10 years ago. Oh, how he loved baseball and the boys! Even when he was upset with the boys, what he said always came out in such a positive manner.

We have lost a great man.

May he rest in peace.
