Jane MacQueen Obituary

Jane MacQueen was born in Lewisburg, West Virginia, on November 22, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Spurgeon and Dorothy MacQueen and the middle of three sisters; Jane was predeceased by her sister, Linda MacQueen Hill and is survived by her younger sister, Alice MacQueen Pinckney. She is also survived by three nephews, David, Robbie and Alan Richardson, and two nieces, Kristin Ribley and Whitney Smith, and her dear cat, Mr. Lucie.

Her daughter, Anne Hearp and son-in-law, Todd, were her world. When they had their four children, Kristin MacQueen Hearp, Caroline Davis Hearp, Gregory Franklin Hearp, and Richard William Hearp, Jane became known as "Nanny," and her world got even brighter.

Early on, Jane spent her youth riding horses all through the town and was known for an infectious, warm, sweet, and funny personality. She was a fierce animal lover and had many pets over the years, including horses, goats, cats, dogs and even some unusual ones, like geese and a duck who lived in her backyard pool. She had one extraordinary companion, her special Maltese dog named Brady. She worked a few places, but Color Tile and Nu Image were particularly memorable for her. She came to know and love many customers throughout those years. She also had several lifelong friends, two of which were major parts of her life from early childhood to today: Caroline Phelan, best friends since they were eight years old, and Kay Harrington. Another dear friend, Alice Mauer, was by her side for well over forty years. She never met a stranger, and her goal was to make someone's day by making them feel special. If you met Jane, you loved her; she was truly one of a kind, easily proven by the fact that everyone has a good story about Jane.

A special thank you to the health care professionals that cared for her at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She loved each of the them, and we thank them for loving her back. She made them smile and laugh everyday, showing them pictures of all her grandchildren and fur babies. She left an unforgettable mark in this world on the ones who loved her most, but also on those who only got the pleasure of meeting her for a short while.

A celebration of life will be held at Roanoke Country Club on August 18th from 4-6 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue or the Roanoke Valley SPCA.

Jane was one of the most delightful people in my life - kind, thoughtful, great sense of humor and fun to be around. We met through a mutual dear friend, Alice, about 40 years ago and became friends through those many years. I miss looking forward to having lunch with Jane. Rest in peace, sweet lady.

I have very fond memories of growing up in Lewisburg. Jane and her sisters were the same ages as my sisters and I. I spent many a happy hour riding horses with Jane and spending nights with her. I am sincerely saddened by the news of her passing. God Bless you, Jane.

Jane was my neighbor and yard buddy. She would always engage in a Interesting and sometimes humorous conversation in Her Yard, my yard, and across the street . She was always friendly to everyone she came in contact or interacted with at any time. She will surely be missed!!.

So very sorry to hear this news. Jane was very good to me and shared her love with me in my early impressionable years as I transformed into a young man. I have very fond memories of her, as do many. Jane will be missed by all whom she touched. WJW

I was so very sorry to hear that Jane left us. I´m one of the ones who had only a few interactions with her. I met her over raucous and fun lunches with my neighbor , Laura Jordan and a group of her former work colleague. I can attest to the fact that she was adorable, open, funny and extremely interesting! She will be missed, sorely. Go with God Jane.

Indeed, Jane never met a stranger. And, she definitely left a lasting impression with those many people to whom she said "hello" and flashed that big Jane smile! To know her is to love her, and I was so blessed the first day she came to work at Nu-Image. I remember it well and we became fast friends starting that very day! I love you Jane; you will forever be in my heart!

I am truly blessed by having great aunts. Jane is exactly as described in the obit, and I rejoice that she is in heaven with Jesus. Many prayers from Lisa and myself to Anne, Todd, Caroline, Kristin, Gregory and Richard for your loss as we are sure that you are missing her. Our loss is heavens gain, and we can look forward to seeing her again thanks to Jesus.
