John Gorman MacQueen Sr., 94, of Smithville, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025, in Bastrop, Texas. He was born John Gorman MacQueen on July 4th,1930 in Hillman, Michigan, to Ada and James MacQueen. John graduated from High School in New York. He joined the Air Force in 1950 and was stationed at Ellington Air Force base where he actively served until December of 1954 during his time off, he worked at Lilley's dairy farm in Algoa, TX which is where he met his wife of 60 years, Dorothy. They married on May 27, 1954. When he finished his time in the Air Force, he started his career with the FAA as a radar technician and retired after 35 years of service in 1989. During his retirement, he went to work for the Raytheon company and traveled extensively around the US with his wife Dorothy before they settled in Smithville in 2001. John was a generous, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to everyone in his life. He enjoyed listening to old country music, watching westerns or game shows and spending time with his grandchildren and extended family.
John is survived by his children: Brenda Burgan and husband Terry, John MacQueen, Jr., Scott MacQueen and wife Michele, and Amy House and husband Tim; grandchildren: Jubal Burgan and wife Lauren, Trey MacQueen, Amelia House, Ada Burgan, Cody House, Aubrie MacQueen, Lorin MacQueen and wife Jessica, Samuel MacQueen and Bethany MacQueen; and four great grandchildren Nova Jean MacQueen, Rowan Meeks, Declan Meeks and Lydia Burgan along with numerous extended family and friends in Texas and Michigan.
