Janice Hicks Obituary

Saturday night November 14, 2009, we lost our anchor, Janice Marie Hicks, of Christiansburgmother, grandmother, wife, aunt and sister. She lived through the loss of her oldest brother Edward James killed in World War II, infant sister, Margory James, son, Linny T. Hicks Jr., father, Walter James, mother, Madeline James, sister, Maebelle Wood, brother-in-law, Cleo Wood, and husband of 58 years, Linwood T. Hicks Sr. in 2003. We that live will carry on our loving memories: son, Jon Hicks, Christiansburg; daughters and son-in-law, Jan Lang, of Christiansburg, Myra and David R. Badger, Blacksburg; grandsons, Daniel and Nicole Hicks, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Matthew Buttel, Roanoke, David J. Badger, Mark T. Badger, both of Blacksburg; brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Darnell James, of Floyd; sister, Myra Poff; aunt, Flora Nolen, of Floyd; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews; special caregivers, Katie, Pepe', Suzy. Our memories are not in vain because of her faith in the Lord, we shall see her again. Special thanks to Christiansburg Family Medicine, especially to Dr. Hannah and nurses April and Kelly. Special thanks to Rescue Squad and Carilion NRV Medical Center ER, CCU, doctors and nurses for their wonderful care of our mother and nurturing of our family. Family and relatives are invited to the Funeral Service, 12 noon, Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd with the Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Send Online Condolences by visiting maberryfuneral home.com. I was very sad to hear orf your mom passing. But know you are in my prayers and
thoughts. I know she was the world to you. But God will see you thur. I know
your heart is breaking. And when you lose both parents everything changes. I
hope Jan and John are doing okay too. Know I love you and wil be thinking of
you tommorrow. Take care and God keep his arms around you and your family.

Hi Myra,
Thank you for giving us info on what happened with your mom. I am glad you were there as she crossed over and could experience it as a peaceful thing , that your dad was waiting for her.

Sometimes it takes a while to understand the reason for when things aren't going your way...don't you think you were supposed to not be working here because you were to be free to take care of her during her last days? You can always find a job; but being with your mother and helping her, you can't replace that. (My uncle had his funeral there at Mayberry's...my grandparents when they were alive were always going over there, I know as a small child I would ask them who we were going to visit in the funeral home. They would go in and we would play outside.)

Thanks for the idea of donation to the Warrior Fund; in times of a friend's grieving for a loss it is nice to know a good cause to honor the person who has died.
