Jerry PITTMAN Obituary

Jan. 14, 1938 ~ July 20, 2013 Jerry Christian Pittman, 75, passed away July 20, 2013. A resident of Blue Ridge, Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Royal Order of the Moose. He was a retired long-distance truck owner/operator, and could recite every joke he heard over the course of his 28 year career on the road. He could be gruff, stubborn, and often inappropriate, but he had a golden heart the size of Texas and was more often fun-loving, generous, and full of life.
Over the last few years, he suffered with multiple heath issues including Alzheimer's, but he remained in good spirits and would often say, "Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most." He was a loving father, faithful member of his church, and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Laverne and R.C. Pittman; sister, Ann Pittman Mitchem; and wives, Mary Harris Pittman and Martine Amanda Brogan Pittman.
He is survived by daughters, Rebecca S. Wescott and Sherry P. Taylor, M.D.; grandchildren, Philip Wescott, Jared Wescott, and Alexis Taylor; great-grandson, Tobias Connor Wescott; and best friend, Sue Wiseman.
Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Central Baptist Church, 5656 Starkey Road, Roanoke, VA 24018. Private family interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Central Baptist Church. Arrangements by SouthCare Cremation & Funeral Society in Alpharetta, Ga., 678-735-5500.

Dear Becky & Sherry,
I was shocked today when I looked in the AJC obits and saw your Dad's name. I wish to express my deepest sympathy. I remember him just as discribed in the obit. He was a great friend as well as your Mother. Steve & I lived next door to them on the Green Cove Springs Navy Base in Florida many years ago. We visited all of you in Roanoke several times and it was always great fun to see both of them.
I've missed your Mother and thought
of her often the last few years. Your Dad and Mandy visited us here in Conyers many years ago and that was the last time I saw him but I have fond memories of his jokes and wise cracks. He was fun to be around. I know y'all will miss him as we have missed Steve these past 13 years. God is good and He is faithful to see us through all the sorrow. We will be praying for all of you at this time.
Love and prayers,
Glo & Stephanie Horetz
