Joan Brenton Obituary

Joan Marie Brenton

November 13, 1932 - February 27, 2025

Joan Marie Brenton passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the age of 92.

Joan was born on November 13, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA to John Joseph and Cecilia Manion. She graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School. She married William Brenton in June of 1954, sharing 44 years of uncommon devotion and affection until her husband's death in 1999.

Joan is survived by her four children, William Brenton Jr. (Cheryl), Joanne Shabelski (Mel), David Brenton (Mitzi) and Mark Brenton. Joan had seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with the expectation of meeting her eighth great-grandchild in just a few weeks. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Johnsen and many nieces and nephews. Her sisters, Theresa Lott, Mary Webb, Cecilia Dunn and Anna Bortner predeceased her.

Joan was an accomplished bridge player and loved doing needlepoint. She was an avid gardener taking delight in the beauty of her plants and flowers. She loved country music but also enjoyed Luciano Pavarotti. She was a lifelong reader and always had a biography close at hand. Ever curious, she often consulted the reference desk at the library. Her keen sense of humor and her infectious laugh will be missed by family and friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all those who cared for her at The Park Oak Grove and Harmony Memory Care. A special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for their skill and compassion at the end of our mother's life.

A private family gathering will be held in the future. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross. Condolences may be shared with her family at www.Oakeys.com.

We're sorry to learn of Joan's passing. She was a nice and honorable woman who helped rear a quite diverse family. And I feel that, in turn, she was well cared for, living to age 92. Well done. We pray for your comfort. Sincerely, Bob and Diane Haun
