Joe Ann Sperger

June 30, 1935 - September 4, 2025

Joe Ann Sperger, 90, of Roanoke, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

She was born on June 30, 1935, to the late Edgar and Sylvia Dobbins.

Joe Ann attended William Fleming High School and went on to Roanoke College where she received a bachelor's degree.

She enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, watching baseball, golf and basketball and spending time with family and friends.

Joe Ann worked as an elementary school teacher for the Roanoke City Public Schools for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years to Richard "Dick" Sperger; and sons, Richie and Randy.

Joe Ann is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lynn Sperger; her grandson, Evan Sperger; and her granddaughter, Heather Wiltsey.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cardinal Senior Living. They took great care of her and she was so happy living there.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Chris Kingery officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Roanoke City Public Schools Education Foundation. Condolences may be shared with her family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.
