Julian B. Doss Jr. of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, after a long illness.

He was born on his mother's birthday, August 8, 1940, to the late Dr. Julian Doss Sr. and Marie Farris Doss.

Julian B. Doss Jr. was silver screen handsome. He was an actor and a romantic. He commanded the stage at Showtimers and other regional theatres. He was generous with his time especially with young actors who were impressed with his ability to hold an audience in thrall with his riveting presence and perfect diction.

JB never showed up without a single perfect shell, flower, stone, or bottle of wine. His life was sometimes chaotic as it is with dreamers. He never met a stranger, no matter what your age. He could turn your head with a piercing glance and hold your attention with a witty introduction and his thoughtful responses. He asked a lot of questions and was interested in anything you had to say. Well-informed, there never was a bigger fan of NPR.

JB is survived by his longtime friend, Claire English; cousins, Lindy Riley of Tennessee, Judy Kniskern, Phyllis Layne Morris (Bobby), and Barbara D. Walker (Loren); and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Janet Chisom officiating. The family will receive friends starting at 9:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
